HOLMES MILL WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

Holmes Mill is the coolest venue in town. In fact, it’s the coolest venue in many towns…Actually it’s probably up there with the coolest places in the UK and I absolutely LOVE photographing weddings here. I think I captured one of the first weddings here, and since it’s opening have photographed another 8 with 4 in the diary for 2020 (possibly 2021 now :-( )

It’s such a stylish and unique space that every time I’m here it’s completely different to the last, from how the couples choose to have the function room, or whether they have their wedding breakfast in the spinning block, or just simply how the light falls into the room - different each time, but always amazing which makes endless opportunities for moments to happen in.

Another thing I love about Holmes Mill is that, well I’m actually based here having my own office above the function room, so I don’t think there’s many other photographers who know the venue like I do. And as a local to Clitheroe I can tell you this place has done so much for the town, bringing amazing food from all around the county in the food hall, and incredible ales from around the country in the beer hall (I’ve sampled many!) which quite frankly has resurrected the nightlife here resulting in other bars opening too. We have a cinema once again, and not just a standard one - an Everyman cinema, the best way to see a film.

The Venue

Holmes Mill is a venue like no other. A stunning former textiles mill in the centre of Clitheroe, sitting proudly next to the castle. Every part of the old mill has been perfectly refurbished by the James Places group giving life to its original features in a modern style of its own. The textured walls, period character and incredible light that comes in is the perfect setting for cool industrial chic wedding photography, for couples who don’t do boring.

They only ever host one wedding at a time so you have the full attention from the awesome staff who go out of their way to make your day perfect. You also have the option to have your wedding in two quite different settings from the cotton room on the first floor or the 1823 spinning block bistro which has a really cool ‘art noveau inspired decor.’

The Spinning Block

The Spinning Block features a 38 bedroom boutique hotel above the 1823 bistro, bar and grill. It is literally a stones throw from where the action on the dance floor is taking place at your wedding making it so easy for you and your family and friends to stumble to once the party is over.

On the morning of your big day the bridal preparations, hair and make-up, usually take place in one of the huge family rooms on the top floor. As with all the rooms at Holmes mill there is so much space and light, as well as gorgeous decor.

The Cotton Room

This is where the ‘I do’ bit usually takes place. The room itself is a large space with ‘industrial bare walls’ keeping it loyal to its origins. The seating is made from old reclaimed cinema seats. One whole side of the room is made up of windows which lets in so much of the most amazing light during your ceremony. Combine that with hundreds of festoon light bulbs hanging off the gritty ceiling makes for the most amazing wedding photo’s. I don’t think I can really say any more - you can see the pictures :-)

The Engine Room

The most iconic part of the whole mill, there is no better setting to have your drinks reception. The wheel in the centre of the room has some serious ‘wow’ factor and is always a real taking point. The room has such a warm vibe and so much character. I love taking candid shots of guests in this feature packed room and making the most of the natural light that pours down from the ceiling. There’s also loads of little corners for making relaxed photo’s of brides and grooms without taking them away from their guests.

What I love about photographing weddings at Holmes Mill

Well, I don’t want to repeat myself too much. I love the light at Holmes Mill, and how it falls onto the most beautiful characterful features and industrial walls. Put a couple in there with all their favourite people and the most incredible wedding photography happens.

The weather just doesn’t matter at all

It’s literally the only venue I can think of where it just doesn’t matter what the weather is doing. You can work with the weather at any venue, and I do, but here - you’d actually rather be inside. Couples getting married here want the cool industrial look. That said, if you’re lucky enough to get great weather you can stroll outside to soak it up in the beer garden or hop over the road to Clitheroe castle for some epic photo’s as the sun sets over the town.

The best party ever!

I don’t know what it is about here, but the party goes OFF every single time, it must be the hops! And not just the weddings I’m at, sometimes I come down from my office on a Friday evening if I don’t have a wedding that day, and I see all the other weddings going off too. So if you want a serious party at your wedding - this is the place for you.
